Flowing Light – 36×24 in

The upper Sacramento River sparkles in the sun as it passes under a fiery maple on a glorious fall day. Thick emotive brushwork captures the tension and dance of light. This painting is inspired by the view looking downstream from Mossbrae Falls near Dunsmuir, one of my favorite places to take friends. To get to the falls, you first have to ford the Sacramento, a truly audacious thrill when just an hour downstream it is one of the mightiest rivers on the continent. Someday I might attempt painting the falls themselves, (but if you’ve seen them, you know why that’s a maybe!) This could be as close as I’ll get 🙂
