Grand Canyon Light

As a former geologist, the Grand Canyon is one of my favorite places, whether hiking into the dazzling abyss from the edge of the rim or rafting the Colorado River far below. This painting is of the view from the south rim near the Bright Angel Trail. It is done using vivid blocks of color where the sun hits the jutting sandstone cliffs and smoother cooler tones on the shale slopes and where the canyon dives into shadow. This painting arrives ready to hang on a hand-painted 1.5-inch gallery-wrapped canvas.
