A friend has a magnificent hedgerow of hollyhocks which inspired this painting. Each flower tower (and they really are towers) stands 6-8 feet tall, the blossoms opening in sequence from bottom to top like booster rockets, each pushing the one above it to burst into life and touch the sky. I used colors thick and buttery as summer itself to depict the vitality of these giant rocketing flowers.
This painting arrives ready to hang on a 1½-inch gallery-wrapped canvas with hand-painted edge.
