I traveled to the Sacred Valley in Peru in 2019 and what did I paint? A tree, of course! Albeit a strange tree as few trees can handle growing at 9000 feet (see the painting Inca Trail). The Incan landscape is so foreign to my sensibilities, it’s taken time to settle inside me. But, finally, this “stairway” asked to be painted. If you look carefully, it is what remains of a vast terrace system now eroded. You can see the remnants of the terracing all the way to to the top of the cliffs. I used a palette of rich rarified colors suitable for this amazing vertical world flooded with light and air.
This painting arrives ready to hang on a 1½-inch gallery-wrapped canvas with hand-painted edge.
